Proclamation

CITY OF ANAHEIM

WHEREAS, the State of California is a focal point for the nation's space technology research and development, with companies and universities contributing to the design and engineering of spacecraft and launch vehicles, and the development of satellites and space-based services that support scientific exploration, national security and homeland defense; and

WHEREAS, the State of California hosts multiple NASA Centers and employs approximately 180,000 engineers and skilled workers that foster and promote new and expanded growth in the California space enterprise and economy; and

WHEREAS, the California Space Authority will sponsor events to highlight the importance of space enterprise during Space Week in Washington, D.C. from March 24 through 27 and on March 18, California Space Day;

NOW BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED by the Anaheim City Council that March 18, 2003, be designated as CALIFORNIA SPACE DAY and that the City Council recognizes the importance of space enterprise in California and expresses their appreciation to the companies and universities that are the leaders in the development and exploration of space technology.
