Proclamation

presented for
California's Space Enterprise Ventures

Whereas, large groups of space enterprise manufacturers have settled in California, thereby making this state one of the few in the nation with the vertical integration capabilities of research, design, manufacture, launch and systems management, and

Whereas, Southern California has benefited from the jobs and economic growth that has occurred due to a prosperous space enterprise climate, and

Whereas, Long Beach is the world headquarters for Sea Launch Company, the multinational consortium that is launching commercial satellites into orbit from the Equator; and

Whereas, Sea Launch Company's homeport is located on former US. Navy property at the Port of Long Beach; and

Whereas, more than 600 businesses, involving thousands of employees, in Long Beach are either suppliers or vendors to the space industry; and

Whereas, the International Satellite & Communications exchange Conference and Expo will be held at the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center on August 27-29, 2002;

Now, Therefore, I, Beverly O'Neill, Mayor of the City of Long Beach, do hereby recognize our community's involvement in California's space industry and commend the Sea Launch Company for their major launch endeavors that are helping to bring worldwide attention to Long Beach as a center for space activities.
