Resolution of the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles Supporting the California Space Authority's Effort to Publicize the Importance of Space Enterprise Matters in the County
WHEREAS, the California Space Authority serves as a policy advisor to the Secretary of the California Technology, Trade and Commerce Agency and the Governor on all space enterprise matters.
WHEREAS, the California Space Authority is a non-profit corporation representing the diverse sectors of the space stakeholder community: commercial, civil and military;
WHEREAS, the mission of the California Space Authority is to promote and strengthen the industry throughout California, beginning at the local level, and carrying that mission to the State and Federal levels;
WHEREAS, the California Space Authority seeks to obtain support from the County of Los Angeles to assist in obtaining the attention of local, State, and Federal decision makers on space enterprise matters;
WHEREAS, large clusters of space enterprise manufacturers have settled in California thereby making this state one of the few in the nation with the end-to-end capabilities of research and design, manufacture, launch, and systems management; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS:
1. The Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles encourages the development of appropriate space enterprise activities consistent with prudent environmental sensitivity in order to retain and increase the prestige, jobs and associated economic benefits of the space enterprise community.
2. The Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles commends the California Space Authority for its efforts to foster and maintain space enterprise in the County and throughout the State of California and for their continued efforts to educate policy makers and elected officials about the need for their involvement and support of space enterprise development in the State.
3. The Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles proclaim the week of March 24 through 28, 2003 "Space Week" in the County of Los Angeles and support and encourage educational programs specifically for space enterprise development within the various communities of the County.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, upon adoption of this Resolution the Executive Officer of the Board of Supervisors shall deliver signed copies of the Resolution to the Chief Executive Officer of the California Space Authority and that the Resolution be posted on the Los Angeles County website.
The foregoing resolution was on the 18th day of March, 2003, adopted by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles and ex officio the governing body of all other special assessment and taxing districts, agencies and authorities for which said Board so acts.
