San Luis Obispo County Passes Space Industry Development Resolution
San Luis Obispo, CA - On Tuesday, January 8, 2002, the County of San Luis Obispo passed the following resolution in support of the development of the space industry in the County. An original copy of the document was presented at the Board meeting to Robert Davis, President and CEO of CSA and to Andrea Seastrand, Executive Vice President, Director of Strategic Policy and External Affairs for CSA. RESOLUTION SUPPORTING
THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE SPACE INDUSTRY
IN SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY
WHEREAS, an unprecedented surge in space technology is creating a new Space Services Era with global space industry revenues expected to exceed $200 billion by 2008; and
WHEREAS, at least 40 countries and 18 states are eagerly competing for a share of this worldwide space market; and
WHEREAS, in the past several years California has lost more than 200,000 aerospace jobs to other states; and
WHEREAS, space will generate a massive new marketplace, energize an opportunity-filled workplace, develop unique training and education centers, stimulate diverse scientific and research laboratories and create major tourist destinations; and
WHEREAS, as our community offers impressive educational facilities, faculties, technical education and training programs poised to assume a vigorous proactive role in promoting and addressing space industry needs; and
WHEREAS, San Luis Obispo County recognizes the critical economic importance of competing for the thousands of high paying jobs that will be generated by the opportunities offered in the 21st Century space industry.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED and ordered that the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors, State of California, does hereby support the development of the space industry in order to bring our County the prestige, jobs and associated economic benefits of space transportation and the services provided therefrom, and commends the California Space Authority in their efforts to foster and maintain the space industry in the State of California.
