Photographs from Mojave Spaceport during SpaceShipOne's Second Ansari X-Prize Flight

Unless otherwise indicated, these photographs were taken by CSA on October 4, 2004 at the Mojave Spaceport during the second Ansari X-Prize flight of SpaceShipOne (SS1). Press release.


The dawning of a new citizens' space age at the Mojave Spaceport of California.


Several X Prize exhibits were in the public area.


Just before 7:00am, the White Knight took off carrying SpaceShipOne beneath it.


Everyone in the crowd did their best to keep an eye on the various craft in the air that morning.


Two of the chase planes passed overhead following the space flight of SS1.


People gathered around SS1 after the flight.


Stu Witt of the Mojave Spaceport congratulated the SS1 team.


The stage for the X Prize webcast included a very large TV screen for the crowd.

Jim Benson (right) of SpaceDev, makers of SS1's rocket motor, spoke with people in the crowd.


After SS1's successful flight and landing, it was towed closer to the viewing area for some champagne popping and congratulations.


The White Knight took a victory fly-by after SS1 had landed.
