2005 CSA Board of Directors
New Elected Members Announced

SANTA MARIA, CA - The California Space Authority (CSA) is pleased to announce the results of its Fall Board of Directors Election.  A total of six Board members, including one new Board member, were elected.  Their terms of office will begin in January 2005.

Board members are chosen from 3 regions consisting of Northern, Central and Southern California. Terms are for three years, but are staggered to ensure continuity between elections.  The twelve elected, nine appointed, ex officio, and liaison members of the Board represent a broad cross section of California's space enterprise community including leaders from industry, academia, government, military and labor.

A list of the six newly elected members of the Board of Directors follows:


SOUTHERN REGION

Rosen, Dr. Stanley – Consultant (incumbent)

The Boeing Company

Dr. Rosen has held scientific, engineering, management, policy, strategy and planning positions in the USAF covering many elements of military and intelligence space activities.  While at Hughes/Boeing, he held strategic planning and development positions focusing on military, intelligence and commercial space systems and services.   As a member of AIAA, Dr. Rosen has held local and national leadership positions, including Chairman, Space Systems Technical Committee; VP Public Policy; and Director-at-Large. Distinguished Lecturer.  He has served as Vice President and co-founder of the Association of Strategic Planning, the nations only professional society focused on strategy development and execution.  At CSA, Dr. Rosen has served as a Board member since 2002 and is currently Chairman of the Board.


Shotwell, Gwynne - Vice President, Business Development (newly elected)

Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX)

Mrs. Shotwell develops the customer base for SpaceX vehicles and manages strategic relationships. Prior to SpaceX, she held positions of increasing responsibility in Space Systems Engineering, technology, and Project Management during her ten years at The Aerospace Corporation. Mrs. Shotwell also managed Microcosm’s Space Systems Division, where she served on the Executive committee and directed corporate business development.  Mrs. Shotwell received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from Northwestern University in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mathematics. She is the Chair of the Space Systems Technical Committee of the AIAA and has authored technical papers in a wide variety of areas.


CENTRAL REGION

Bridge, Stephen – Consultant (incumbent)

Frontier Technology, Inc.

Mr. Bridge is a consultant for Frontier Technology and Aerospace companies and the CEO of Bridge Business and Engineering, a high tech engineering company holding contracts with commercial and government customers directly related to space. Mr. Bridge has 30 years of Engineering and Information Technology experience. He has held key positions for Frontier Technology Inc, bd Systems Inc., Lockheed Corp., Martin Marietta Corp., Certainteed Corp., and The Boeing Company. He is a director for the California Space Authority and is a Registered Professional Engineer with a Bachelors degree from Chico State University, and a Masters of Systems Management from USC.


Haile, Ph.D., Allen - Director, Community & Government Relations (incumbent)

California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly)

Dr. Haile’s background includes VP for Urban Affairs, Pepperdine University; Adjunct and Associate Professor, Public Administration, Golden Gate University; Dean, College of Business, Cal Poly.  His solid educational background forms a base for hands-on experience with Atlas Missile System, and systems/research experience with SAMSO and Rand Corporation. Dr. Haile designed and managed building of pubic infrastructure systems in Saudi Arabia for Bechtel Corp. and he is a former assistant to U.S. Secretary of Commerce.  His military honors include Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, and seven air medals.  Dr. Haile was graduated with an A.B. from the University of Nebraska; MS, MPA, Ph.D., from USC; a masters degrees in Systems Management, Astronautics/Space Vehicle Systems; and a Ph.D. in Public Administration.


NORTHERN REGION

Crowley, Mark - Vice President, Program & Subcontract Management (incumbent)

Lockheed Martin Space Systems

Crowley is Vice President of Program, Subcontract and Product Management for Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company, in Sunnyvale, California.  In that capacity, he leads an organization of 1,500 employees.  Mark has over 21 years of technical and program management experience in spacecraft and missile and re-entry vehicle programs, including experience at General Electric, and GE/Martin Marietta Astro Space.  His education includes a B.S. in Aeronautical & Astronautical Engineering from the University of Illinois, an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University, an M.S. in Management through the prestigious Stanford Sloan Program and is a graduate of the GE Edison Engineering Program.


Molvar, Jan - Chief Engineer (incumbent)

Scitor Corporation

Molvar was graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1962 and was subsequently commissioned in the Air Force.  He obtained an MA in Astronomy from UCLA.  His 28-year military career was spent in the development of satellite systems and the operation of command and control systems.  He was the Commander of three organizations flying advanced satellites. Molvar joined industry in Northern California, with Booz-Allen & Hamilton and now Scitor.  In that capacity, he managed teams focused on the application of military and commercial space systems to provide enhanced information to warfighters and civil “first responders”.  He has been a member of CSA’s Board of Directors for  seven years.
