Joint Legislative/Executive Trip to DC Applauded
California Unifies for Common Good
SACRAMENTO -- Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Legislative Leaders are in Washington DC today to advocate in unison for California. On the agenda is the protection of military installations, and their missions, in California.
The California Space Authority (CSA) would like to express its congratulations to the Governor and to the California State Legislature for their united and cooperative work in advocating for the protection of military installations, and their missions, in California.
"The joint trip of the Governor and the Legislative Leadership to Washington DC is a new sign of cooperation that hasn't been seen in the halls of the State Capitol for some time," stated Andrea Seastrand, Executive Director of CSA, and a former member of the Assembly. "Likewise, it isn't often that the full California Congressional Delegation meets together. With the Governor's visit, all three parties will be sitting in the same room on behalf of the needs of our state. This action sends a loud message across the nation that California is a united force with which to be reckoned. This expression of unity is a warning to other state delegations that California's military installations, and the missions they support, will not be given up without a drastic fight."
Over the past rounds of Base Realignment and Closures (BRAC), California has lost 31 of the 91 military installations it once had. These closures have led to a loss of over 90,000 defense-related jobs and over $30 billion in Department of Defense (DoD) investments in our state per year. Of particular concern to CSA are those military installations that perform key space-based missions, including Los Angeles Air Force Base, Edwards Air Force Base and Vandenberg Air Force Base, to name just three.
CSA represents the interests of California's diverse space enterprise community in all three domains: commercial, civil and national security. Designated as the official Spaceport Authority for the State of California, CSA is a member-based organization working towards the betterment of space enterprise in our economy.
