"Magnificent Desolation"

Event Flyer

Press Release

“Magnificent Desolation” was what Buzz Aldrin called the surface of the moon, as he and Neil Armstrong in 1969 were the first humans to leave their footprints in the moon’s surface – a surface that had waited for man’s arrival for eons. On September 21, 2005, more than 250 people at the Sacramento IMAX Theater previewed the new Tom Hanks movie of the adventure of these two astronauts and the 10 others who followed them in the Apollo program. The reception and preview were sponsored by CSA and co-sponsored by Lockheed Martin, Aerojet, the Chabot Science Center, the Discovery Science Center, and Townsend Public Affairs. Among those attending were legislators and legislative staff along with senior members of the executive branch. Following the presentation, the “lobby” movie reviews establish that “Magnificent Desolation” is a magnificent story of mankind’s pioneering spirit and highly recommended to all those who look to space as the frontier. The movie is dedicated to all those spacefarers who lost their lives pursuing the dream.

Susan Bassett and Michael Velasquez promote Aerojet's role as a sponsor of the IMAX preview event and the making of the film.
