CSA's annual Space Day was held in Sacramento, May 02, 2006. Our 37 participants, in seven teams led by CSA Executive Director, Andrea Seastrand, met with 54 legislative offices to discuss the Space Enterprise initiatives with Legislators and staff. Reaction by these Legislators and staffers to our meetings has proven to be very beneficial, and as the legislative session continues we hope it will translate into policy decisions that help foster space enterprise in California. The common threads expressed by these legislators and staffers were 1) support of the initiatives to expand economic development, education and the labor workforce improvements and opportunities, and 2) administration awareness of California as a global space enterprise leader, particularly in light of considerable competition from other states and countries.
As a part of Space Day, CSA hosted an Executive Branch Focus Luncheon, with remarks made by the Governor's staff related to economic development, employment development and the employment training panel. The Legislative Reception that evening provided for successful networking with the administration and legislative representatives. The CSA stakeholder sponsors for these events were Loral Space Systems, XCOR Aerospace and Lockheed Martin. Space Day proves to be a successful tool in CSA's fight to promote the Space Enterprise at all levels.
