Quintron Provides Complete Technological and Innovative Upgrade to Vandenberg AFB Range Status Alert System

"U. S. Air  Force users have described the new system as 'the Cadillac of the many new WROCC  system upgrades at VAFB,'" said Diana Ibay, Integrated Project Team  Lead for ITT Corporation's WROCC Activation Project.

Santa Maria, CA (November 28, 2006)  - Quintron, the recognized leader in advanced interoperable voice systems  and physical access control/intrusion detection systems, announces the new Quintron  Range Status and Alert System.

Quintron designed the Status and  Alert system under subcontract to ITT Corporation for the Spacelift Range System  Contract (SLRSC) to be used by the Air Force Western Range at Vandenberg AFB,  CA. "We were able to provide a complete technology upgrade into current  net-centric operating environments, while maintaining existing legacy interfaces  and operating procedures," said David Wilhite, Vice President of Quintron's  Telecommunications Systems Division. "We solved the problem of how to  replace an aging and deteriorating analog system with up-to-date technology,  requiring minimal training for existing operating personnel."

The Quintron DICES IV product technology  was adapted to provide a generational upgrade for the existing Vandenberg AFB  Range Status  Alert system used to provide launch readiness status based  on multiple criteria (pad conditions, weather, telemetry, command destruct,  etc). Launch controllers utilize dual touch screen console units, one screen  for status input, and the second screen to provide status display from other  operators. Central redundant servers provide system connectivity via standard  Ethernet-IP and configuration management for all operator displays. Separate  I/O servers accept IP commands and convert them into legacy narrow band audio  signals for status communications between the Western Range Operations Control  Center (WROCC) and the Vandenberg AFB launch pads.

"This is exciting for us because  it is an innovative use of our existing DICES IV product software in a completely  new application," said Wilhite. "We adapted an existing product  architecture into a completely different application to provide a significant  upgrade from a 1960's technology based system to a Client-Server IP based  Status  Alert system." The system will also support an eventual upgrade  to a complete end-to-end IP system.
