CTE Summit, January 15, Sacramento
Get REAL is promoting a discussion surrounding CTE and will be hosting a 2008 Career and Technical Education Summit on January 15 at the Sacramento Convention Center from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. It will include a keynote luncheon, testimonials from educators and their students, a policy development session with leading legislators and an exhibition of student CTE coursework. An informal reception for all legislators and staff will immediately follow the summit. GET REAL

CSA 2007 Policy/Legislative Survey Now Available
This survey is provided as a way for space enterprise community stakeholders to provide input into the policy and legislative priorities of CSA over the upcoming year. As a basis, we have used the recommendations identified in the 2007 California Space Enterprise Strategic Plan. This survey asks you to review these action items and prioritize them by pointing out those in need of the most immediate attention. You may access the survey. Or take the online survey.
Baseline "State of Space Enterprise in CA" Survey
As one way to measure the impact of the California's Space Enterprise Strategic Plan implementation efforts, the SEAC (in conjunction with the Collaboratives and Working Groups) created this survey to "take the pulse" of California space in areas related to the strategic plan.
ASA Hearing on Export Controls, March 11
The Aerospace States Association will hold a hearing on the issue of export controls on March 11, 2008, on Capitol Hill. The public is invited. Speakers include Congressman Manzullo, Mario Blakey (former FAA Administrator and current President/CEO of AIA), and Professor Bob Twiggs of Stanford University. No-Cost Export Compliance Training (PDF), January 21
The El Camino College Center for International Trade Development in conjunction with the California Space Authority, with support from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security is offering free export compliance training on the State Department's International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) and the Commerce Department's Export Administration Regulations (EAR). The training will take place on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 10:00 AM, materials and lunch will be provided. CSI and SS/L Collaborate on COTS Pursuit
Constellation Services International, Inc. (CSI) is collaborating with Space Systems Loral (SS/L) to pursue a funded Space Act Agreement with NASA's Commercial Orbital Transportation Services (COTS) program.
Bill Introduced to Mitigate ITAR Consequences
Rep. Brad Sherman (Democrat, CA) introduced legislation that would mitigate and/or elilminate unintended consequences of current ITAR laws, regulations, and policies. The legislation (H.R. 4246) was introduced on Nov. 15 and has three original co-sponsors. A copy of the bill can be found online.
